Only Fools and Horses fans delighted to see David Jason’s reunion with former co-star
The Del Boy Trotter actor posed with the show's most memorable extra
Fans of Sir David Jason have been excited to see him reunite with one of his former co-stars on Only Fools and Horses. It came after a sweet picture was shared to Instagram by the actor Vas Blackwood of the two of them together, the Mirror reports.
Vas may have only appeared in one episode of the classic BBC sitcom back in 1986, but his cameo was loved by viewers and has clearly been remembered for decades. He played Lennox Gilbey aka The Shadow in The Longest Night episode.
The photo showed Vas in a grey tracksuit, beaming as he put his arm around David, 83, who wore a blue fleece and jacket. Vas captioned the snap: “Sh Ah Dow & Del go robbing again.”
Vas’s appearance on the show saw him playing a hapless robber holding up Del Boy, Rodney and Uncle Albert Trotter in a supermarket. His character, Lennox, introduces himself to the trio as ‘The Shadow’ while brandishing a pistol, before telling the Trotters: “I’m a man of mystery me, a master of disguises, the man with a thousand faces.”
As well as comparing himself to the Scarlet Pimpernel and quoting some of his own terrible poetry, Lennox tells his hostages: “They seek him here, they seek him there, those policemen seek him everywhere, is he in heaven, or is he in hell, the elusive Sha-aa-dow!”
Now, over 25 years on from the episode first airing, Only Fools and Horses fans have been reminded of the scene thanks to Vas’ Instagram snap. Many people commented, saying how much they loved Vas’ appearance in the show.
“Only made 1 appearance in ofah and you smashed it Vas,” Tony said. While David wrote: “One of my favourite episodes from one of my favourite ever shows.”
Matt asked: “When and where will the next convention be?” As meh4n added: “Two absolute legends.”
“Yes!! Loving this,” Brian said. And Jade commented: “Absolute legend! Looking amazing.”
Since the famous episode back in the 1980s, Vas has had a successful career in the entertainment industry. He has had stints on shows like Casualty and the Lenny Henry Show, as well as making appearances in movies such as The Guvnors, Essex Boys Retribution, White Collar Hooligan 2: England Away and Daylight Robbery.
In 1998, Vas appeared as Rory Breaker, in Guy Ritchie’s smash hit Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, starring as a drug dealing gangster with a reputation for violence.
David has previously discussed how he and co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst “no longer speak” despite being very close while filming the sitcom. The actor said he missed his friend “terribly” since Nicholas became more “self-contained” following the tragic death of his son in 2020.
