Only Fools and Horses actor David Jason on ‘rift’ with Rodney co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst

BBC series Only Fools and Horses remains a national treasure

There was a time when it wasn’t really Christmas without a new episode of Only Fools and Horses on BBC One. But since there hasn’t been a full episode made for 20 years, fans must make do with compilations and best bits on Channel 5.

Thankfully, this year’s iteration of that, Only Fools And Horses: Greatest Christmas Moments, features none other than actual Del Boy, aka David Jason, and he speaks about the state of play currently regarding his relationship with long-time co-star, Nicholas Lyndhurst who played Del’s drippy younger brother, Rodney.

There’d been rumours of a fall out with Lyndhurst, but the 83-year-old, who first starred as wheeler-dealer Del in 1981, said in the brand new documentary celebrating the series’ best bits, that: ‘You couldn’t have had a better co-partner than Nic. We liked and respected each other so much, we were genuinely good friends.” You can keep up to date with the latest TV and showbiz news by signing up to the newsletter here .

As well as that, back in 2022 Sir David told Radio Times: “He’s much more – how can I say? – self-contained, perhaps, than he used to be. So, unfortunately, we don’t see each other as much as I would like to. But that’s how things work out sometimes.”

in 2020, Nicholas Lyndhurst tragically lost his son, Archie, to acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at the age of just 19. Describing the loss as “tragic” Sir David added: ” I have been in touch with him but he keeps a very low profile.”

Nicolas has recently returned to TV comedy, joining the Frasier reboot opposite Kelsey Grammar. The actor doesn’t appear in the new documentary but Sir David is joined by Tessa Peake-Jones, who played Raquel, as well as members of the team behind the cameras.
