This That 70s Show Star Allegedly Avoided Cast Members on Set & a Source Revealed Exactly Why
Despite ending with its reputation intact in 2006, That ’70s Show is now wrapped up in a controversy due to some cast members’ actions that has come to light in the years after the sitcom ended. And, for fans, one star is proving himself to have more morals than other members of the cast — Topher Grace who allegedly had a fraught relationship with his co-stars from early on.
In September, Danny Masterson — who played Steven Hyde on the show — was sentenced to serve 30 years to life in prison for raping two women between 2000 and 2003, the women were just two of several others who made similar claims.
If that wasn’t controversy enough, stars Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis — who played Michael Kelso and Jackie Burkhart respectively — faced backlash for writing letters to a judge presiding over Masterson’s case, pleading for a lighter sentence for the convicted rapist, calling him a “role model.”
Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp, who play Kitty and Red Forman in both That ’70s Show and spin-off sequel That ’90s Show, were also among the people who wrote letters advocating for Masterson to get minimal prison time.
Amid the backlash, fellow cast members Laura Prepon (Donna Pinciotti) and Wilmer Valderrama (Fez) have been silent, a move that has also raised some eyebrows. Though Topher Grace (Eric Forman) has also stayed silent, he and his wife did garner praise from fans due to her response online.
“To every rape victim that is that is retraumatized by witnessing society debate and focus their attention on what is going to happen to the RAPIST … I see you,” Ashley Hinshaw wrote in an Instagram story. Now, fans are thinking this might give us a clue as to what Grace thinks of his embattled former co-stars.
According to In Touch Weekly, Grace, 45, rarely socialized with his cast mates. There was even reports that the actor left the show without saying goodbye when he departed in the second last season.
“Topher was focused on the work and didn’t have time for his castmates’ fun and games,” a source told In Touch Weekly. If his wife’s statement is anything to go by, it’s likely Grace didn’t approve of his co-stars actions and, hence, kept his distance.
“Topher stands out as the cast member who didn’t show support for Danny during the trial,” said the source. “He kept out of it, which was wise given the guilty verdict and harsh sentencing. Topher may have had the intuition that things were not going to go well for Danny.”
Grace has never publicly dissed any of his co-stars and did appear in the series finale of That ’70s Show and in the pilot episode of That ’90s Show, which stars Prepon, Rupp and Smith. So, by all accounts, he is on good terms with at least some of his former cast mates.
