Springfield Armory Offers XD Optical Sight Pistol (OSP) Slide Kit

The Springfield Armory XD pistol can now be made red-dot-ready with an OSP (Optical Sight Pistol) slide kit.

If you own a Springfield XD pistol and have watched with envy as other shooters come to the line with a red dot on their pistols, your solution is at hand. Springfield is now offering OSP (Optical Sight Pistol) slide kits that will convert your XD to a red-dot-ready XD. And depending on what XD you have, it’s an opportunity to create a whole new type of pistol.

Here are the possibilities:

  • XD five-inch 9mm to four-inch OSP 9mm
  • XD four-inch .40 S&W to four-inch OSP 9mm
  • XD five-inch .40 S&W to four-inch OSP 9mm
  • XD four-inch 9mm to four-inch OSP 9mm

The photos above show the conversion from five-inch 9mm to four-inch OSP 9mm, and it’s an example of how you can end up with a new gun thanks to a simple slide swap—one with the same grip and same trigger you’re used to. And .40 S&W shooters can change not only slide length but caliber as well.

All the kits come with a slide adapter plate with the Leupold/Shield footprint. It will accept Springfield’s own Hex Wasp; Leupold DeltaPoint and DeltaPoint Pro; SIG Romeo Zero, Crimson Trace 1500; Shield RMS, RMSc and SMSc; as well as a few others.

Depending on what you’re after, you can purchase the kit as slide only (part number XD4901, $270) or slide and barrel assembly (XD4902, $396). It’s also available with a Crimson Trace 1500 sight: sight and slide (XD4903, $369); sight, slide and barrel assembly (XD4904, $495).

The slide and barrel assemblies come complete with recoil spring. The sight adapter plate attaches via the same three screws that the slide cover plate uses. If you buy the kit with the CT 1500, two sight attachment screws are also provided.

This new kit not only gives a new life to an old gun, you get two pistols in one. In the example above, your full-size, iron-sighted duty gun can continue to fulfill that role, but when you want a smaller, more concealable gun with a dot, just swap out the slides.
