Only Fools and Horses star completely unrecognisable in snap from 50 years ago

Only Fools and Horses actress Gwyneth Strong is worlds away from how fans of the BBC sitcom are used to seeing her in this throwback snap.

Introduced as Cassandra in 1989, viewers saw her catch the eye of Rodney Trotter (Nicholas Lyndhurst) whom he later married.

Although her character was known for being the sensible and intellectual one, the actress is almost unrecognisable from her iconic character.

Posing for the camera, the actress is a fresh-faced 13-year-old who is featured in the horror film Nothing but the Night as Mary Valley.

Wearing a long-sleeved polo jumper with three bracelets dangling off her arm, Gwyneth has a huge smile on her face as she looks off into the distance.

Still sporting her iconic fringe, the actress has much longer hair that falls just above her elbows as she leans against a tree trunk.

However, as Gwyneth was just a teenager at the time she starred in the film, she was unable to attend the premiere for being too young.

Her last appearance as Cassandra in Only Fools and Horses was in the 2003 finale and the Christmas special called Sleepless in Peckham.

Finishing the long-running sitcom on a high, Cassandra and Rodney welcomed a baby girl, called Joan after Del Boy (David Jason) and Rodney’s mum.

Speaking on Loose Women back in 2022 the actress touched on the longevity of the show.

She said: “It seems to have done that thing where it goes across the generations.

“So now we get kids coming and saying I want to get an autograph and my grandad got me into the show.”

The TV actor went on to say: “And you just think that’s quite special, really.”
