Test your TV knowledge in our ultimate catchphrase quiz

There have been countless memorable TV moments over the years

TV has provided us with some truly memorable moments over the years. From live sporting moments through to gripping soap storylines, it is often the source of entertainment in millions of homes across the country.

Many of those memorable moments come with memorable quotes or catchphrases. A survey has revealed that Victor Meldrew’s “I don’t believe it” from British sitcom One Foot in the Grave is the most used catchphrase in everyday life – more than 30 years after the show first aired.

The poll of 2,000 adults saw the iconic line, first spoken in 1990 by Richard Wilson in One Foot in the Grave, top the list of the 50 TV sayings which have become part of daily conversations. Little Britain’s “Computer says no” took second place, followed by Del Boy’s classic line from Only Fools and Horses, “Lovely jubbly”.

It also revealed that 80 per cent of Brits use TV catchphrases in everyday conversation – and three quarters (76 per cent) of those even use sayings from shows they’ve not actually watched.

Following the findings, we have created a quiz to give you the chance to test your own knowledge of TV catchphrases. There are eight questions and we feel you should definitely be getting the first one correct.
