David Jason Gives Health Update as Only Fools and Horses Convention is Delayed

David Jason, known for his role as Derek “Del Boy” Trotter in the beloved sitcom Only Fools and Horses, has provided an update on his health. The 83-year-old actor was set to attend an Only Fools and Horses Convention in October along with other cast members. However, the event has been postponed for three months as Jason recovers from surgery.

Jason took to his Facebook page to apologize to his fans, saying, “I am so very sorry for the disappointment and all the inconvenience it may cause, but we are having to change the date of the forthcoming Only Fools and Horses Convention.” According to a report by Independent.co.uk, he revealed that he needs a new bionic body part fitted but didn’t disclose which part it is.

Referencing a character from the show, Jason reassured his fans, “And don’t worry, it’s not being supplied by Monkey Harris, it’ll be the pukka gear.” Monkey Harris was often mentioned as a seller of dodgy goods in the series. Jason expressed his hope that everyone will be able to make the new date in January, emphasizing the enjoyment the event brings: “It is such a privilege to meet so many of you, but I want to do it with the smile on my face I always have had.”

David Jason became a household name through his role as Del Boy in the long-running BBC series Only Fools and Horses. The sitcom, created by John Sullivan, first aired in 1981 and concluded with a Christmas special in 2003. Over the course of its run, there were a total of 64 episodes.

While the other stars attending the Only Fools convention in Milton Keynes in January have yet to be announced, recent participating cast members in an on-stage Q&A included Gwyneth Strong (Cassandra), Tessa Peake-Jones (Raquel), and Andy Gill (Tony Angelino). The audience applauded Gill as he recreated his famous “Cwying” scene from the show.

Meanwhile, Nicholas Lyndhurst, who portrayed Del’s brother Rodney in Only Fools and Horses, is set to star in the forthcoming Frasier reboot. Lyndhurst built a strong friendship with Kelsey Grammer, who plays the lead role, while performing together in a stage production in London’s West End in 2019. Grammer has expressed his excitement for the reboot, stating that it may be even funnier than the original.
