James Caan dead: John Wayne estate’s tribute to El Dorado star Duke pranked relentlessly

JAMES CAAN, who has di*d at the age of 82, has been paid tribute to by the estate of John Wayne. The Godfather actor co-starred with the Western legend in 1966's El Dorado, where Duke went out of his way to wind up the young actor before the pair became firm friends. One prank even saw the Hollywood star fill the young actor's dressing room entirely with garbage.

James Caan was just 27 years old when he had a big break being cast as knife-throwing gambler Mississippi in Howard Hawks’ first remake of Rio Bravo, El Dorado. Co-starring opposite John Wayne and Robert Mitchum in the 1966 Western was a big deal for him and over the years he’s shared some hilarious stories of the shenanigans and at times fiery altercations he had with Duke.
