Jim Carrey Saved Daredevil Star Charlie Cox’s Acting Career When He Failed to Get Roles After $137M Box Office Success ‘Stardust’: “I remember being so inspired”

Charlie Cox is a remarkable actor and he was fantastic as Daredevil, and he was well praised by the critics and the fans for his role because he adapted himself into the character and perfectly showcased the disability of the character. Moreover, while playing the character the actor showed growth as a vigilante. However, the fans would have never seen Charlie Cox as Daredevil because he was close to quitting acting.

The Treason actor did not have ample opportunities in the industry and even after being a part of numerous plays and feature films and television shows, despite having high hopes for his career in acting, he was struggling, but, Jim Carrey played a significant role in the acting career of the young actor, as he helped the young actor to surpass what it means being an actor.

Charlie Cox’s Early Acting Years

Charlie Cox went on his acting career at the age of 19, when he enrolled in the Bristol Old Vic Theater School in England. The young actor appeared in a number of roles while studying the acting school, he was cast as Lorenzo in The Merchant of Venice plays in 2004, and the actor appeared in guest spots on a number of TV shows, the actor also appeared in movies like Dot The i, Casanova to build up his reputation as an actor, and it paid off as he played the lead role in Michelle Pfeiffer, Ian McKellen, Henry Cavill, Robert De Niro and many more.

In spite of working in the lead role alongside a star-studded cast did not give him the big break which he was looking for, and he opened up during an interview with NME about the lack of opportunities is making him question if he should continue as an actor or not.

“I was told by so many people what that would mean and what it would lead to. None of those things happened. The doors did not all open. I didn’t know what was going to happen to my career. I almost felt worse off. When you’re up-and-coming, everyone’s interested, but when you’ve had the moment and it hasn’t translated into anything… people look for someone else. There was a period of time when I felt like I couldn’t get arrested.”

The actor was heartbroken because even though what many people close to him believed would open doors for him were not answered, it hurt him as an artist because his work didn’t feel meaningful to the people in the industry.

How Did Jim Carrey Help Charlie Cox?

When the Stardust actor was at the lowest phase of his career, and he was doubting himself, Jim Carrey’s work gave a sense of comfort to the young actor. The Legacy actor was a fan of Jim Carrey and followed his movies, but his role in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind made an everlasting impression in the mind of Charlie Cox.

“I’d grown up seeing Jim doing Ace Ventura, but his performance in [Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind] truly transcended what I believed he was as an actor. I remember being so inspired. For the first time I really understood why I was on this path.”

Jim Carrey’s role made a massive impact on Charlie Cox, this is the reason why the actor does not feel like a star, and he simply leads the show. Cox bagged the role of Daredevil in the Netflix series which brought him immense fame and recognition as well as work opportunities; his performance as the lawyer-turned-vigilante has cemented him as one of the best actors of this generation, and this role translated into what the actor was always hoping for.
