Clint Eastwood’s Co-Star Paul Koslo Opened Up About Battling Elements to Film ‘Joe Kidd’

Paul Koslo, who once co-starred alongside Clint Eastwood in the film Joe Kidd, opened up about battling the elements while shooting the film. Joe Kidd came out in 1972 and follows one-time bounty hunter Joe Kidd (Clint Eastwood) who owns a ranch when a local group of revolutionaries for Mexico fight for their rightful claim to the Land, which the United States denied.

To film the classic western, they had to travel to a lot of remote locations where the weather was very difficult to work with. And getting shots was very, very difficult even with a pro like Clint Eastwood.

In 2017, Koslo discussed the film with A World of Westerns. In that discussion, he mentioned how hard it was to battle the elements while filming in the very windy high desert.

“Clint had to cinch his hat up. And the whole crew was there and he was walking his horse and Clint is a beautiful rider riding a beautiful horse. The whole crew is waiting for him to do this shot,” he said.

But there was a problem.

“It was blowing so hard. It had to be going 70, 80 miles per hour and everything was just- people were holding down stuff and boards and everything else,” he said. The wranglers had to have their hats pulled down. “All of the sudden, Bobby cuts the biggest fart you’ve ever heard and one of the Wrangler’s hats just blew off at the same time.”

This…. battle with the elements wound up causing different problems. Everyone was laughing so hard that it ruined the whole shot. And again, shots weren’t easy to get in that weather, but they just had to reset.

Other Clint Eastwood Films are Crushing It on Streaming

The two most-watched films on the platform are Cry Macho and The MuleCry Macho ranks in at #24 on the streaming service right now. The Mule is #55.

Cry Macho is one of Eastwood’s newest films. It follows a former rodeo star on a mission to reunite a boy with his father. But it’s not necessarily the film people may wanna start with. With a 54% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has some mixed reviews. It’s based on a novel of the same name.

If you want to watch Joe Kidd, the film is a bit hard to pin down on streaming, but is available to purchase or rent bother through Apple and Amazon.
