Reliant Robin collection to be auctioned for more than £18,000

The three-wheelers were made famous in Only Fools and Horses and now there's a chance to own one - or maybe more

An auction of Del Boy-style three-wheelers could be a nice little earner for their owner – after being valued at more than £18,000. Seven of the iconic Reliant Robins are up for auction next week.

The marque was made famous by David Jason’s beloved character in Only Fools and Horses, although he actually drove a slightly different variant, the Reliant Regal Supervan. The single owner of the collection could be left rubbing his hands with glee at the
“lovely jubbly” price, just like the wheeler-dealer in the classic sitcom.

The vans will go up under the hammer on September 29 at Ewbank’s in Surrey. The top lot is expected to be the white 1978 MK1 model, which has 56,091 on the clock and has had four owners from new. It is expected to fetch a cushty £4,000 to £6,000.

Another highlight is a gold 2001 Reliant Robin SLX Special 65 Edition, which was produced for the 65th anniversary of Reliant vehicles. Fitted with red leather seats and alloy wheels, it has 78,830 on the clock and is expected to fetch £2,000 to £3,000 at auction.

Del was famous for his yellow Reliant Regal van, which he shared with his brother and business partner Rodney, played by Nicholas Lyndhurst. It was regularly seen with him and Rodney crammed inside on the way to their next money-making venture as they chased the dream of becoming millionaires.

There was actually a fleet of six Reliant Regals used during the 22 years of Only Fools and Horses filming.
