Iconic Robin Williams Characters Sorted Into Their Hogwarts Houses

Robin Williams portrayed numerous iconic roles in film, but which Hogwarts Houses correspond with his colorful characters?

It’s difficult to narrow down the most iconic Robin Williams characters since the late legend of the screen starred in so many memorable roles before his untimely death in 2014. Williams did such a phenomenal job of bringing the characters to life that audiences sometimes feel as if they’re real people.

Judging by their strengths, weaknesses, and motivations, audiences can also make a good guess as to what Hogwarts houses the characters would be if they existed in the Harry Potter universe. Keep reading to find out which Hogwarts houses characters like Alan Parrish, Patch Adams, and Aladdin’s Genie would be sorted into.

10. Daniel Hillard: Ravenclaw

The central protagonist of Mrs. Doubtfire, one of Williams’ most successful films, Daniel Hillard is a lot of things. Namely, he’s hilarious, good at thinking on his feet, great under pressure, witty, creative, and more intelligent than the people in his life give him credit for. Because of all of this, it makes sense that the Sorting Hat would place him in Ravenclaw. Think about it: transforming into a housekeeper just to see one’s estranged children is pretty smart.

9. Alan Parrish: Hufflepuff

If Alan Parrish from Jumanji went to Hogwarts, the Sorting Hat might decide that he fits in with Hufflepuff. The biggest reason for this is the fact that he’s so patient, which is a trait the house prizes. It definitely takes patience to live in the jungle for 26 years. And though Alan faces his fear in the end, he still doesn’t seem quite bold enough to make Gryffindor.

8. Teddy Roosevelt: Gryffindor

This one is a no-brainer. If Robin Williams’ Teddy Roosevelt were to go to Hogwarts, he would be sorted into Gryffindor. Even though he maintains that he was made in a factory in Poughkeepsie and never did any of the courageous things that the real Teddy Roosevelt did, he still embodies the brave spirit of the American hero.

He might not be brave enough to tell Sacagawea that he loves her at first, but he wouldn’t be the first Gryffindor to be romantically challenged.

7. Dr. Sean Maguire: Ravenclaw

In one of the few serious roles of his career, Robin Williams portrayed Dr. Sean Maguire in 1997’s Good Will Hunting. The professor teaches psychology at Bunker Hill Community College, which definitely demands intelligence. This intelligence, combined with his witty one-liners, individuality, and wisdom, makes Dr. Maguire the perfect candidate for Ravenclaw house.

6. Adrian Cronauer: Gryffindor

Only a few minutes into Good Morning Vietnam, audiences can tell that Adrian Cronauer has a lot of nerve. Much like the Weasley twins, he’s a natural entertainer. But that’s not the real reason he’d be sorted into Gryffindor. It’s his willingness to challenge his superiors in order to do what’s right that would make him fit in right alongside Harry Potter himself.

5. Mork: Ravenclaw

In the role that launched Robin Williams to stardom, he portrayed the alien Mork on the hit sitcom Mork and Mindy. There are endless reasons why the Sorting Hat would place Mork into Ravenclaw, the primary one being he is one smart extraterrestrial. Like many Williams characters, he’s also incredibly sharp and witty. Plus, if anybody was going to be born in a test tube, it would be a Ravenclaw.

4. Patch Adams: Hufflepuff

Hufflepuff students are known for having a strong moral code, being good-natured towards their fellow witches and wizards, and being dedicated to the causes they commit themselves to. For these reasons, it’s likely that the Sorting Hat would place Patch Adams into Hufflepuff.

After he spends his life trying to make sick people laugh, how could he not be?

3. Peter Banning: Slytherin

Robin Williams didn’t play too many characters with Slytherin traits during his career, but he did play at least one. Peter Banning from Hook seems as though he fits in well with Slytherin house thanks to the fact that he’s so achievement-orientated. And when he does transform back into Peter Pan, he makes a superb leader of the Lost Boys, just like a true Slytherin.

2. Professor Phillip Brainard: Ravenclaw

Even though Professor Phillip Brainard from Flubber is referred to as “The Absent-Minded Professor” and has generally failed to invent anything of note other than the flying rubber substance known as Flubber, he’d still make a good candidate for Ravenclaw house. The fact that he’s creative enough to produce Flubber from scratch shows that he would fit in well with other Ravenclaw students.

1. Genie: Gryffindor

If the Genie from Aladdin was sent to Hogwarts, it’s highly likely that the Sorting Hat would place him in Gryffindor. Even though he’s bound to serve his master, he’s bold and daring in the way that he chooses to carry out his wish-fulfillment. He can also be quite fiery with Aladdin from time to time, but there’s something about his character that seems so noble. The way he comes to Aladdin’s rescue, even when he doesn’t wish for it, shows that he’s loyal and always willing to help out a friend in need. It’s true that his wit and creativity might make it seem like he’s better suited to Ravenclaw, but this character has Gryffindor written all over him.
