Especially when it came to beauty and appearance, the sisters were expected to meet certain standards in order to portray a certain image on the show.
It’s no secret that Kris Jenner, the matriarch of the family, is one of the driving forces behind the success of the family and their TV show. Aside from managing her children’s individual careers (and taking a 10% cut from all their business ventures), Kris also had a say over how some of her daughters looked when they appeared on the show as children. Kendall And Kylie’s Life On The Show
Keeping Up With the Kardashians aired in 2006, launching the entire Calabasas-based family to international stardom. While older siblings Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and Rob were in their 20s, the youngest of the clan, Kendall and Kylie Jenner were 12 and 10 years old respectively.
From that young age, both girls were exposed to a life of cameras, red carpets, fans, and, of course, glamour. Along with having their lives play out in a TV show for the world to see, the girls also had access to the fashion and style opportunities that their mom, Kris Jenner, gave to them.
Weekly Manicures
Since growing up and becoming celebrities in their own right, Kendall and Kylie have spoken out about what life was like behind the scenes of filming their family’s TV show as children. They revealed that their mom would have them get manicures every week prior to filming.
“[Kris] would have a nail artist come to the house once a week and she would make us get our nails done,” Kendall admitted (via Refinery29). “She was like, ‘You are never going to look like you’re not put together.’ So we were always getting them done.”
Kylie then explained that Kris has a thing for nicely done fingernails. “Anytime she meets someone, she’ll look at your fingernails,” the billionaire beauty icon said (via Life and Style). “I never cared when I was younger and I hated getting my nails done–it just took up my playtime. But she likes pretty nails, so that’s where I got my nail obsession.”
Kylie’s Famous Manicures
She may not have cared much about manicures as a child when her mom wanted her to have them done, but Kylie has since developed a love of perfectly groomed fingernails. These days, the mother-of-one still gets her nails done once a week and loves to experiment with unique artwork.
Some of her most famous manicures include the bloody Halloween nails, the long metallic nails, the faux water droplets, and the colorful yin and yang nails.
Kendall’s Nail Style
By comparison, Kendall’s nail style tends to be a little more conservative than her sister’s. The Zoe Report explains that the model often goes for a signature oval or stiletto shape, but she does sometimes change it up with square ends.
Recently, she made waves for donning a mint-green French tip style that had major animal print vibes. It’s possible that Kendall has taken nail inspiration from Kylie, who is often seen sporting more dramatic nails.
Kris’s Beauty Standards For Herself
When it comes to beauty standards, Kris Jenner definitely isn’t a hypocrite. She required her daughters to have their nails done for filming, but she also has certain standards that she sets for herself before she appears on camera.
According to Cosmopolitan, the famous momager and Kardashian-Jenner matriarch has a team of professionals that make up her glam squad and spend an hour on her every day, before filming. Kris also asks that the crew use bright lights to flush out her face while filming so that she looks the way she wants on camera.
Other Rules Set By Kris Jenner
The rules set for the Kardashians when it comes to filming standards also extend beyond makeup. Cosmopolitan also revealed that the mother-of-six sometimes has crew members wear surgical shoe coverings before coming into her house.
Kris also has more creative control of the show than the other members of her family as she has the power to review and even eliminate taped footage. So if she doesn’t like the way she appears in what’s been filmed for the show, Kris has the power to cut it out completely. We’re guessing that’s what she did with any footage depicting bare nail beds!
