The Only Fools and Horses character played by 6 different people
One actor went on to find success in Hollywood
Del Boy’s only son, Damien Trotter was played by numerous actors during the character’s life on the Peckham based show.
The series centred around Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter and his younger brother Rodney as they attempted to “get rich quick” through selling low quality goods from their three-wheeled yellow van known as Trotters Independent Traders.
Originally the South London comedy aired in 1981 and went on to become a household name.
Unsurprisingly, some of the actors who played Derek’s son went on to take on other roles in popular TV shows.
Here’s a look at the 6 actors who played the descendant of Peckham’s finest wheeler-dealer.
Douglas Hodge
In December 1996, the Heroes and Villains episode aired and viewers were treated to a glimpse into the future where Damien Trotter was now the head of a now powerful Trotters Independent Traders.
The classic special follows Del Boy and Rodney arriving at a wake dressed as Batman and Robin, to Boycie’s amusement – you all know it.
However, the episode opens with Rodney’s futuristic dream where his ‘evil’ nephew Damien is head of the very powerful Trotters Independent Traders, who rule the Western world.
This particular scene is set in the year 2026 and Damien Trotter is now declaring war on China from their headquarters Trotters Towers.
Plymouth born, Douglas Hodge played the adult role of Del Boy’s son and the actor went on to appear in other series as well as Hollywood blockbusters.
In 2019, the actor starred in the Joker as Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth, arguably his biggest role to date.
Not too bad for a Trotter.
Back in blighty, Douglas took on roles on Skins, Outnumbered and Robin Hood.
Benjamin Smith
When it comes to British TV stars, their career isn’t quite complete if they haven’t starred in at least one popular soap.
For Benjamin Smith, as well as playing Damien Trotter, the actor took numerous roles including an early appearance on Holby City and EastEnders.
Benjamin also went on to star in Doctor Who, Misfits and like fellow actor Douglas Hodge, the Edgware-born star had a stint in Skins.
Jamie Smith
In a total of 5 episodes, Jamie played the role of Damien Trotter including the episode Heroes and Villains where his older version, Douglas Hodge appears.
Grant Stevens
The actor appeared in Only Fools and Horses as Damien Trotter in 1991’s two-part Christmas special Miami Twice.
In the episodes, Del Boy and Rodney visit Miami where they run into drug dealers and all hell breaks loose.
Patrick McManus and Robert Liddement
Both actors played Damien Trotter, however, it seems that they acting dreams ended there.
Since their appearances on the hit show, Patrick and Robert’s acting career seemingly reached the end of the road.
