Robin Williams is a beloved public figure. The actor-comedian is known for hit and memorable movies like Hook, Jumanji, and more. His association with charitable works only made the actor more endearing. However, Williams wasn’t a saint. As per his first wife, Valerie Velardi, he wasn’t a faithful husband either. Velardi stated that the actor loved being around women and that ultimately resulted in an affair that shattered their lives.
Robin Williams Wasn’t Faithful To Valerie Velardi
Robin Williams’ career began in 1978 with the Mork & Mindy show. However, that wasn’t the only notable milestone that year. The star also married his first wife, Valerie Velardi, the same year. But it wasn’t a happy one. In the Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind (2018) documentary, Marina Zenovich (the director) interviewed multiple people from the actor’s life to understand and pay tribute to him better. One of the people interviewed was Velardi and she didn’t remember their time together too fondly. She shared that Williams had trouble remaining faithful but she accepted him either way. As per Velardi:
“He loved women. Absolutely loved women. And I got it. I understood and I wanted him to have that. But I also wanted him to come home.”

Previously, in an interview with People magazine, Velardi had stated that she couldn’t take her husband’s unfaithfulness after having a baby, son Zachary in 1983. She said:
“Very attractive women throw themselves at men in his position. You’d have to be a saint to resist. Besides, neither of us was prepared for the sudden life shift. But I admit the other women were harder to take after I’d had a child.”
The situation worsened after the couple hired a nanny to take care of their infant son. She would go on to become Marsha Garces Williams because the actor had an affair with her that led to him divorcing Velardi. The Dead Poets Society star married Garces in 1989 and had two children with her, Cody and Zelda Williams. As for Velardi, she moved on with her life and focused on other relationships as well as her personal growth. They continued co-parenting their son.

“I walked in and saw this man and I thought: ‘I think that’s Robin Williams.’ Then on my way out I happened to look at him again and he was smiling at me and something inside me said: ‘Oh, just go over and say hi.”
They were married in 2011. But Williams’ demise in 2014 cut the relationship short. The actor is survived by three children, Zachary Pym Williams, Cody Williams, and Zelda Williams.
