David Jason’s caring act for Nicholas Lyndhurst after teenage son’s tragic death

Only Fools and Horses legend David Jason reportedly went out of his way to comfort his on-screen brother Nicholas Lyndhurst following the sad d*ath of his son.

David Jason reportedly “did all he can” to comfort his Only Fools and Horses co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst following the devastating death of his 19-year-old son to leukaemia.

Archie Lyndhurst sadly died in his sleep from a brain haemorrhage caused by Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia back in 2020, leaving a “catastrophic effect” on his family.

It is thought that the Del Boy actor was in regular contact with his on-screen brother following the tragedy.

A source said at the time: “Despite no longer being on screen together, David and Nick remain very close. So, as soon as David became aware of what had happened to Archie, he was in touch with Nick.

“He’s been in regular touch ever since and – like everyone else who cares for Nick and his family – is just trying to provide whatever support he can.

“Nick’s heart is broken, and David is doing all he can to support him.”

Sir David and Nicholas played the legendary Trotter brothers for more than 20 years, a time David looks back on fondly.

The 83-year-old said last year that “it wasn’t like going to work” and he misses the BBC comedy “terribly”.

However, David acknowledged that his friendship with Nicholas, 62, had changed over the years

He explained to Radio Times: “He’s much more – how can I say? – self-contained, perhaps, than he used to be.

“So, unfortunately, we don’t see each other as much as I would like to. But that’s how things work out sometimes.”

Following Archie’s death, Nicholas took some time away from the public eye.

In a statement shared shortly after the CBBC star’s death was announced, the Rodney Trotter actor shared that he and his wife Lucy were “utterly grief-stricken”.
