Call the Midwife and EastEnders star Phil Daniels’ life from tragic loss of partner after 30-year relationship to forgotten Only Fools and Horses role

Many soap lovers will know Phil Daniels for his EastEnders role playing Kevin Wicks. The Islington-born actor joined the cast of the show back in 2006 as the dodgy car dealer who was the ex-husband of Albert Square resident Shirley Carter (Linda Henry).
His character also had a love affair with the fiery mum-of-two Denise Fox (Diane Parish). The pair eventually ended up getting hitched after falling hopelessly in love. However, Kevin’s life in Walford wasn’t always rosy as he ran into trouble after being involved with hardman Phil Mitchell.
Kevin met his sticky end when he tragically died as a result of a car accident in 2008. He passed while lying in Shirley’s arms, and was later found by Denise, who kissed her dead husband goodbye.
After leaving the soap, Phil previously admitted he had always planned to be a part of the show for two years, saying: “EastEnders has been an absolute pleasure, but it was always my intention, after two years in the job, to move on and do other things.
Adding: “I’d like to thank all on the Square for making my stay such fun.” Ever since his departure from the BBC One soap, Phil has been no stranger to television.
In 2020, Phil took on a role in BBC period drama Call the Midwife appearing in one episode. He played a 60-year-old man called George Benson who lives on a street marked for demolition.
The actor also had a iconic role in Rock & Chips (the prequel to Only Fools and Horses ) as Grandad Trotter as well as starring in Endeavour and The Mallorca Files.
Sadly, away from our screens, Phil suffered from a terrible tragedy after his partner, Jan Stevens, died from pancreatic cancer in 2012. The couple had been together for 30-years.
