‘Knight Rider’ Keeps Following David Hasselhoff Wherever He Goes

Although he’d had a starring role on the daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless, David Hasselhoff’s prime time value was uncertain in 1982 — his only after-dark appearances had been a guest shot on The Love Boat and a quickly cancelled adaptation of the movie Semi-Tough. But Brandon Tartikoff, then the chief at NBC, personally recruited him to star in a new series about a man and his talking high-tech car. Knight Rider became a big hit, and it turned Hasselhoff into a superstar. And, although he had further success with Baywatch, Hasselhoff says that almost everywhere he goes, people still remember him primarily for Knight Rider.
