A pair of Only Fools and Horses fans have gone viral after hilariously recreating an iconic scene. The video shared to the video platform TikTok, which has been viewed more than a million times, shows the lads make an almost perfect spoof of that chandelier scene.
One man can be seen in the background of the video holding a sheet before a chandelier falls to the ground elsewhere smashing to pieces. Only Fools and Horses fans will be well aware of the inspiration behind the hilarious content.
Of course many will remember the iconic scene involving Del Boy and Rodney in Only Fools and Horses. The scene in question came in season two, episode seven ‘A Touch of Glass’, during which Grandad, Rodney and Del Boy had been hired to clean a grand house.
TikTok users were very impressed with the recreation, with one user calling them “legends”. Another commented: “If you understand this well done.” “That’s just brilliant,” said another. One user commented: “This brightened my day.” “Nice on lads. Thing is they only had one chance to get this shot right too,” commented another.
Nicholas Lyndhurst revealed in an interview with TV legend Michael Parkinson that he and David Jason were nearly fired for giggling while filming the scene. “I was nearly fired because of that scene,” Nicholas recalled, “I’m a bit of a giggler when it comes to that sort of stuff.
“So Ray Butt our producer came up to me and he said ‘This chandelier cost six grand, we’ve only got one, we can only afford one, if you laugh that’s the entire scene blown. If we blow the scene the BBC won’t buy the series and that will be down to you. If you laugh I will fire you’.”
In reality though because the shot was being filmed from multiple cameras and angles, had the two actors cracked it would have been easy enough to edit around, but Butt let them think otherwise to add even more tension and humour to the situation.
