The Unlucky Winner Is episode is undoubtedtly one of the funniest Only Fools and Horses episodes. The ingenius storyline follows Rodney Trotter (Nicholas Lyndhurst) as he is forced to pose as a teenage boy for a week whilst on holiday.
Del Boy Trotter (David Jason) entered Rodney into an art competition without his permission, and he wins in the under-15 category with a picture he created in his youth. As the brothers, and Cassandra (Gwyneth Strong), jet off abroad to enjoy the Spanish sun Rodney is left bemused as joins The Groovy Gang along with other competition winner and endures childish activities all week.
As he pretends to be 14 years old, Del and Cassandra also pose as his parents as the wheeler-dealer laps up a free holiday. Meanwhile, Rodney also becomes the love interest of a thirteen-year-old Bros fan.
This episode of Only Fools and Horses first aired in January 1989 and includes an extra who became a huge TV star. The role of Spanish holiday rep Carmen was played by actor Gina Bellman.
The New-Zealand-born, British TV star studied in London and is well known for playing Jane Christie in the BBC sitcom Coupling between 2000 and 2004, which was dubbed the British version of Friends. The 56-year-old has also starred as Sophie Devereaux in Leverage between 2008 and 2012 before reprising her role last year.
She also portrayed Jemima Swann in Ripper Street (2013), Karen in Emerald City (2017), Lady Leonora in Henry IX (2017) – plus many more.
Most recently Gina played the part of Eleanor Markides in Bulletproof and Carol in the movie Gentle. This year, she took on the role of Shepherd Jerbil in Toast of Tinseltown.
But Only Fools and Horses wasn’t Gina’s big break as she played Trudy in the hit TV show Grange Hill in 1984 and Gena Ruberti in Mussolini: The Untold Story.
