Here’s how Only Fools and Horses fans can watch John Challis’ Boycie in Belgrade

No fan should miss Boycie on his 'state visit' abroad!

Only Fools and Horses is one the greatest sitcom’s in British history, there are no questions about it.

Although the show, which is based in Peckham, first broadcast nearly 40 years ago it’s remained as popular as ever with avid fans continuously re-watching timeless episodes.

TV star John Challis played the role of yuppie car-dealer Boycie who is a well-to-do pal of brothers Del Boy (David Jason) and Rodney Trotter (Nicholas Lyndhurst).

Boycie is famed for his deep, contagious laugh and enjoys wallowing in his own success amongst his mates down at The Nags Head pub.

In December 1996, Christmas special Time On Our Hands pulled in a huge audience of 24 million viewers making it one of the most watch television episodes in UK history.

For anyone who doesn’t remember, it’s the one where the Trotters finally become millionaires!

But it seems the success of Only Fools and Horses goes beyond the UK, as apparently, it’s the most-watched show in Serbia.

So in January 2020, television icon John Challis set out to Belgrade to find out why the show was so popular there.

He is welcomed to the Balkan country almost a national hero as he visits a Royal Palace and even gets invited to a private reception in his honour hosted by The British Ambassador among many interesting stops on his journey.

You might argue that this could be interpreted as a ‘state visit’.

From a meet and greet in a shopping centre, to teaching Cockney rhyming slang to English students, the documentary uncovers what it’s like to be ‘Boycie in Belgrade’, and delves into the lasting legacy of the BBC sitcom.
