Only Fools and Horses legend John Challis stung with parking ticket a week after his death

His widow Carol told MyLondon: 'The irony of trying to get £30 out of Boycie now! Marlene will tell you that he’s always been a tight git!'

Only Fools and Horses legend John Challis has been stung with a parking ticket – a week after his death.

The actor, best known for playing car dealer Boycie in the BBC sitcom, died of cancer aged 79 on September 19.

His widow Carol Challis, who now runs his Being Boycie Twitter account, used the social media platform to reveal he has since been sent the notice, though she does see the funny side of it.

Carol, who married John in 1993, sent a tweet to the parking company APCOA saying: “Please follow me for a DM…I’ve got news for you.”

The ticket was handed out at Tesco in Ludlow, Shropshire on September 2 and Carol received the notice on September 27.

She told My London: “We were parked in a disabled person’s bay, displaying a blue badge and there is half an hour’s free parking – we were four minutes over.

“Of course they weren’t to know it was John’s car or that he had died, but the irony of trying to get £30 out of Boycie now! Marlene will tell you that he’s always been a tight git!

“It’s just unbelievably bad timing.”

Carol has appealed to APCOA, whom she says have told her they will consider her objections and get back to her within 35 days. The fine will not increase in the meantime.

Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley, who plays George Shuttleworth, replied to Carol’s tweet: “Oh how funny! I can hear him chuckling away up there! Legend!”

Another responded: “Probably shouldn’t laugh but I’m imaging John laughing at this.”

“Can’t park there Dave…” joked another.

One person even encouraged Carol to “chuck it in the bin!”

MyLondon has tried contacting APCOA for comment.
