ITV Grantchester: Only Fools and Horses star Tessa Peake-Jones looks unrecognisable in new series

Her character Mrs Maguire is known to never smile

Tessa Peake-Jones is one of the most well loved actors from Only Fools and Horses, having played Raquel Turner in a series of shows between 1988 and 2003.

But if you only know her from Only Fools, you’re missing out.

The 64 year old has been acting professionally since 1979, and has appeared in a whole host of your favourite TV shows.

Since Only Fools, she’s appeared in Casualty, The Bill, Holby City and Doctors.

But Tessa’s most recent starring role has been in ITV detective drama Grantchester, in which she plays the tight-lipped Mrs Maguire.

And the actor looks almost unrecognisable from her time in Only Fools And Horses, which she first appeared in more than 40 years ago.

The drama is set in 1950s Cambridgeshire, and follows vicars William Davenport and Sidney Chambers as they begin investigating crime and mystery with the help of Detective Inspector Georgie Keating.

Tessa stars in the drama alongside James Norton, Robson Green and Tom Brittney.

The show received 95 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

One review said: “With its winning combination of a delightful and appealing amateur sleuth, Anglican priest Sidney Chambers … articulate writing, engaging mysteries to solve, and charming village locations, “Grantchester” will soon become a favorite.”

Another wrote: “The glorious new PBS mystery series Grantchester is a revelation on two fronts and unforgettable on both.”

In 2019, The New Yorker referred to it as “The Original Hot-Priest Show”.

What many don’t know about Tessa is that her acting life spilled into her dating life at one point.

While she was in Only Fools, she began a relationship with Douglas Hodge, who played her son on the show.

They have two children together, before splitting in 2013.
