Only Fools and Horses

The hilarious disguises David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst used to escape Only Fools and Horses fans

You probably wouldn't have recognised them either

Only Fools and Horses is one of the most iconic shows in British television history and despite its last ever episode airing over nearly 20 years ago in 2003, it still manages to find its way into office banter and dining room table debates.

Two of the most memorable characters amongst the eclectic group Peckham natives were the brothers, Derek Trotter (who was played by David Jason) and Rodney Trotter who was played by Nicholas Lyndhurst.

The mischievous double act got into loads of shenanigans during the show’s iconic run pulling pranks on local residents and winding up Grandad whenever the opportunity presented itself.

However, it turns out that the pair’s trickster way continued off screen too.

In an interview the Daily Mail, Nicholas, 60, revealed the crazy lengths that both men would go to in order to keep a low profile at the height of the sitcom’s fame.

It is said that the Only Fools and Horses fans would bombard the pair when they were out in public, this led to them coming up with a solution that only they could; they wore disguises.

Nicholas and David took to wearing hats to hide their faces.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Nicholas said: “David had a pork pie hat and sunglasses and I had a baseball cap and sunglasses.

The star added: ““It obviously worked, because one day in Bristol we walked right past one another in the street!”

The two actors have both gone on to wear many different outfits over the course of their careers, not so much disguises but more so filling the roles of characters in some of the most successful television and film productions in recent times.

Between them the pair have over 100 acting credits, including appearances in the likes of Goodnight Sweetheart, Butterflies, The Two of Us, and A Touch of Frost amongst others.
