‘Nonsense!’ Only Fools and Horses actor Nicholas Lyndhurst denies retiring after son dies

NICHOLAS LYNDHURST has denied his acting days are over after the death of his teenage son left him devastated.

Ever since his son died from a brain haemorrhage back in 2020, grief-stricken Only Fools and Horses star Nicholas Lyndhurst has stayed well away from the public eye. However he has insisted this isn’t the last fans will see of him following the tragedy.

The 60-year-old actor was reportedly inconsolable after much-loved 19-year-old son Archie died.

However he was forced to step out of the shadows and deny the rumours circulating about his retirement after a writer friend, Laurence Marks, told the Daily Star on Sunday it could be the end for him.

“Nicholas underwent tragedy,” he stated in the newspaper. “It must have broken his heart. It would break anyone’s heart.

“He has always kept himself to himself and now he’ll do that more than ever.

Intensifying speculation his friend’s career was completely over, he insisted: “Now he’s lost his son, he’ll never come out again.

“I doubt we will see him do any more acting.”

However his rep dismissed suggestions he would be retiring at any time in the foreseeable future as “nonsense”.

Categorically denying the heresy, he stated: “It is complete nonsense that Nicholas Lyndhurst is retired or retiring.”

He told the Mail Online: “Of course he and his wife are devastated by the sudden loss of their young son but Mr. Lyndhurst will continue his career with any parts and scripts that attract him. He continues to constantly receive offers.”

The death of his son was caused by a intracerebral haemorrhage, which was brought on by acute lymphoblastic lymphoma/leukaemia.

He died at the family home where he was receiving care back in September 2020.

It might have appeared as though the star, who admitted being “utterly grief-stricken” had bowed out of public life in a mark of respect to his son.

Yet it has since emerged his absence might have been more about shielding from coronavirus.

In any case, it has been made clear Nicholas has the intention to return to acting.

His wife Lucy penned a touching tribute to mark what would have been their son’s 21st birthday in October 2021.

Sharing a collection of photos on social media, Lucy reminisced on how the pair loved their son “beyond measure”, adding: “Today 4th October will always be the best day of our lives. The day you arrived and completed us. Every adventure has been amazing and utterly joyous, we can never thank you enough for the tremendous ride.

“Today is your 21st birthday. A day we’d talked about for years and the plans you had for it. I wish more than anything your story and adventures could have continued.

“You deserved so much more. You only ever gave to the world. I shall never understand why. Never.”

She confessed: “The pain of not seeing you every day or hearing your voice and your laughter is absolutely agonising.”

However she also added: “We now live in a world we no longer understand and maybe it doesn’t understand us either, but our love for you still grows as it always did. That will never diminish…. You are the best son anyone could wish for.”
