Only Fools and Horses star looks unrecognisable as he poses with David Jason 36 years after iconic episode

The hit BBC sitcom starred Sir David, 83, as Derek Trotter alongside Nicholas Lyndhurst as his younger brother Rodney.

The show – which ran from 1981 to 2003 – and also starred a host of regular characters as well as stand out one off appearances.

One episode from September 1986 was called The Longest Night and saw the Trotters accused of shoplifting at their local supermarket.

The brothers and Uncle Albert (Buster Merryfield) were taken up to the manager’s office where they were then held hostage by an armed robber who shared a connection to Del.

The criminal said the police had nicknamed him The Shadow, and much hilarity ensues throughout the night despite the circumstances.

The Shadow – who later revealed his name to be Lennox Gilbey – was played by Vas Blackwood.

In a Facebook post on an Only Fools and Horses fan page, a picture from the episode was twinned with a recent one of Vas reuniting with Sir David.

Vas looked thrilled to see the legendary actor again, as he put a hand on his shoulder, beamed for the camera and pointed towards him with his other hand.

The caption read: “Almost 40 years later…The Sh-a-dow and Del Boy reunited!”

Vas wasn’t the only former co-star who Sir David reunited with at the event, as Sue Holderness also got to see her friend.

Sue, 73, played Marlene Boyce in the sitcom and shared the sweet snap on her Twitter page.

She wrote alongside it: “SO lovely to be with Sir DJ again.”

Sue played the wife of Del’s snobby friend, car dealer Boycie, and he often greeted her with a pat on the bum.

One fan asked her after she posted the snap: “Did he greet Marlene in the customary way ?! The little playful smack across the buttocks ?!”

She replied: “Maybe!”

Others branded them “icons” or “legends” and posted their gratitude for the long-running show.
