Fans are counting down the days to the “Yellowstone” Season 4 premiere airing Sunday, November 7 via Paramount Network. Unfortunately, the new season won’t be available on Peacock until early next year. The show’s dedicated audience has patiently waited since August 2020 to find out what’s next for the Duttons.

In the Season 3 finale, Beth (Kelly Reilly), Kayce (Luke Grimes), and John (Kevin Costner) face extreme danger as they fight for their lives after three separate, anonymous attacks. The seemingly organized hits concluded the season leaving viewers stuck in extreme suspense. With powerful enemies closing in, the Duttons scramble to protect their esteemed ranching lands.
The series’ many cliffhangers keep viewers at the edge of their seats in fear of losing a beloved character. With less than a week away from the premiere of the latest season, different theories are buzzing around the internet. This begs the question which of the Duttons will live to make it to Season 4? Many wonder whether or not Costner himself is preparing to exit the show. However, a rising concern isn’t unwarranted as the star’s contemplated leaving the show before. Here’s why.
Costner Isn’t a Fan of Working on a Recurring TV Program
Many hail “Yellowstone” as Kevin Costner’s first real television series. Despite the drama’s immediate success, Costner has articulated his disinterest in working within a television series demanding schedule. Originally pitched as a limited miniseries, Costner admits the current series format is not what he signed up for.
“It wasn’t supposed to be a series when I was first approached with it,” Costner admitted in an interview with Gold Derby. “[“Yellowstone”] was going to be 10 episodes, [and] it was going to finish there. It was going to have its story arc and that’s how it was presented to me.”
He continued by revealing his thoughts about leaving the show as it evolved, “And then halfway through, it switched to something else. And I had a moment where I could have legitimately jumped off and said, ‘Wait a second, that’s not what we’ve been talking about.’ But I elected for my own reasons not to do that…the show has been wonderfully received, but I’m dealing with it in a way that was not anticipated, to be perfectly honest.”
Considering Costner’s brutal honesty highlighting his issues with the show, it’s no wonder fans predict John Dutton’s end is near. Even with its incredible success, can “Yellowstone” continue without its lead character?
