‘M*A*S*H’: What is ‘Hot Lips’ Houlihan Actor Loretta Swit’s Net Worth?

Fans of the classic TV show M*A*S*H know actress Loretta Swit from her role as Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan. What is her net worth?

Outsiders, let’s take a look according to Celebrity Net Worth.

According to the website, it’s $4 million. Swit started on M*A*S*H in the CBS show’s first season in 1972. She was one of a handful of cast members who stayed with the show through its entire run.

Swit captured two Emmy Awards for playing Houlihan. Her role originally was played in the movie version by Sally Kellerman.

Other TV work involves guest-star turns on Gunsmoke, Hawaii Five-O, and Mission: Impossible. As for TV movies, her appearances include Miracle at Moreaux, A Killer Among Friends, and The Big Battalion.

Swit also can claim appearances on Broadway in Same Time, Next Year, and The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

The M*A*S*H actress is 84 years old.

Swit appeared in all 11 seasons of the show. She took the role originally played by Sally Kellerman in the Robert Altman of the same title in 1970. Her character started out as a woman connected with Major Frank Burns, played by Larry Linville.

But Margaret changed in later seasons, addressing serious issues as a woman in a war zone. The show itself was taking a more serious tone, too.

M*A*S*H had the pilot episode’s script written by comedy writer Larry Gelbart.

Now, besides Swit, other cast members who appeared in the show’s 11 seasons included Alan Alda, who played Benjamin Franklin “Hawkeye” Pierce; William Christopher, who played Father Francis Mulcahy; and Jamie Farr, who played the Section 8-seeking Cpl. Max Klinger.

‘M*A*S*H’ Star Says Her Character on Show Had ‘A Lot To Prove’

When it comes to playing Houlihan, Swit knew that the role could be a tough one.

That is maybe why the M*A*S*H star offered these thoughts in a 2017 interview with Fox News.

“The thing about Margaret was that she was living in the ’50s,” Swit said. “I don’t think ‘feminist’ was even coined yet. I think she existed before any kind of major movement took over… (And) I think that’s what made her so spectacular.

“The character was ambitious,” she said. “She’s very strong, very passionate… She had a passion for life and saving life. [But] she had a lot to prove. Her mother was a nurse and her father was a general. And he always wanted a boy.”

Swit also provided another viewpoint about M*A*S*H and it might be one you, Outsiders, might not have considered.

That show was a solid-gold babysitter. Don’t believe us?

“Parents were not afraid of us to babysit,” she said in the Fox News interview. “We didn’t give bad vibes to the kids. We were good babysitters.”
