Only Fools and Horses fans gobsmacked at Jamie Laing ‘being only person over 30’ who’d get The Wheel question wrong

Only Fools and Horses fans were left gobsmacked as Jamie Laing didn’t know the answer to a question about the BBC sitcom during Saturday’s episode of The Wheel (October 21). During tonight’s installment of the BBC gameshow, Made in Chelsea star Jamie was tasked with assisting a contestant with answering a question correctly to help win them a cash prize.
Darren, who was in the hot seat, chose to answer a question about the iconic TV show Only Fools and Horses and Jamie was the chosen celeb who could help him. Host Michael McIntyre asked: “In 1996, how did the Trotters finally become millionaires?”, he then gave them four possible answers including: Winning the lottery, robbing a bank, inheriting from a distant aunt, and auctioning an antique watch.
Darren and Jamie both looked on with blank expressions on their faces as it immediately became clear they didn’t know the answer. Jamie, 34, said: “Auctioning an antique watch and becoming millionaires? Come on, I mean really? I would honestly say, if I was a writer I’d go let’s make it obvious and someone’s died and they just inherit a huge amount and that’s how they became millionaires.”
Darren added: “I mean auctioning an antique watch wouldn’t make them millionaires”, before confirming his chosen answer – the Trotters became rich by inheriting from a distant aunt – which of course was incorrect.
During the 1996 Only Fools and Horses episode called Time on Our Hands, Del Boy and Rodney Totter discovered a watch in their lock-up garage that turned out to be a John Harrison marine chronometer – the ‘Harrison Lesser Watch’. It goes on to sell at a Sotheby’s auction and is sold for £6.2m making them rich.
The Wheels viewers couldn’t believe Jamie Laing didn’t know the answer to the Only Fools question and took to X to share their frustrations with one person writing: “@JamieLaing_UK and that guy must be two of the only people over 30 who have never watched only fools and horses or knew how they became millionaires #thewheel.”
A second stated: “Atrocious Only Fools and Horses knowledge on The Wheel tonight,” while a third added: “How is everyone getting the Only Fools and Horses questions wrong on The Wheel?! Only Fools and Horses is the greatest comedy ever made!”
“Seriously! Really surprised that all the contestants and celebs are struggling with the Only Fools and Horses questions on the The Wheel tonight! Shame on you people! #britishcomedyclassic”, added another. While one viewer asked: “HOW DO PEOPLE NOT KNOW ABOUT ONLY FOOLS & HORSES ??? #TheWheel”, followed by an angry emoji.
